APT Trailer Brake First (TBF)Image posted at: Wed Jun 7 16:05:43 2006

The APT rake gained a third vehicle today - the TBF. This now means that enough shells are complete to make a 'Hornby' style APT rake - DTS-TBF-NDM-TBF-DTS. Of course, the DTS and TBF still need bogies, and detailing, and texturing, so they are still a way off being ready to roll...

Latest shot of the APT DTSImage posted at: Thu Jun 1 11:16:11 2006

A few more windows in place, and I've flushed up the glazing - it's a few more polys than previously, but it looks better, so I think it's a tradeoff worth taking. The windows on these really are very flush - I think I need to slim down the frames as well to properly reproduce this.

A proper nose shot of the APT DTSImage posted at: Wed May 31 12:40:19 2006

The lifting nose is now a separate object, complete with the light clusters cut in and the horn grille in place. The doors are now cut into the shell too, and are created as separate (animatable) objects - though they still need their windows cutting in.

Starting to look a bit more like the real thing now.

Now with the grilles in as well as the windows. I'm going to see just how flush I can push these before getting texturing problems.

Please excuse the constructional pieces in place of the light clusters - someone requested a front-on shot, and I haven't got to sorting them out properly yet...

APT DTS taking shapeImage posted at: Mon May 22 12:51:56 2006

... and now has windows cut in to it.

This is the first test of an idea I've had for creating windows without all the pain of multiple booleans - and it's come out lower poly as well. I'm a little worried about it being susceptible white ants though. Sadly I won't know until it's textured and in Trainz - as they don't tend to show up in GMAX.

APT NDM in Trainz!Image posted at: Mon May 22 12:40:36 2006

The APT NDM has made it as far as Trainz - still quite a few untextured bits, but here it is, sitting in the sun outside the shed for the first time.

APT-P in the worksNews posted at: Wed May 19 21:28:05 2004

I've been playing around with the idea of building the APT-P for a while. I set down the bodyshell for the NDM in GMAX about christmas time, and diligently ignored it for a while.

It didn't take long to grow a veritable forest of insulators on it's roof, but not a lot else happened for quite some time.

Recently I've picked it back up, and I'm stuck in to the driving bogey, which is coming on a treat. Well, assuming you don't park it next to Pikka's 37 that is. That'd just be cruel.

I'll post some screenshots in a day or two once I've got a bit more of the inside of the bogey filled in, and show you how I'm getting on. It looks a little odd at the moment, as I've started with the most visible details and I'm working my way in, and there doesn't appear to be anything holding it together at the moment...
